RAMP

Raising Achievement in Monroeville and Pitcairn, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers from the communities of Monroeville and Pitcairn. The vision of RAMP, Inc. is for our communities to have an environment of academic excellence. Our mission is to help create an environment of academic excellence by addressing achievement gaps that exist among subgroups of students in our community and assisting them in preparation for post-secondary education.

Students who experience the greatest gaps here are African-American, Hispanic, come from low-economic backgrounds, or have disabilities. If we can help create an environment that believes in them, and nurture the development of support systems for them, we can help to close those gaps. With these gaps closed, academic achievement rates and college matriculation rates will be higher, thus leading to a more successful population of students, and a more academically healthy Monroeville and Pitcairn.

What We Do

We, the board members of RAMP, Inc. work with community members and organizations such as parents and residents, businesses, churches, school administration and teachers to help build a collaborative atmosphere that will be condusive to the creation of an environment of academic excellence.

We understand that a child's environment is not simply the home they live in, but is also the streets they live on, the neighborhood they live in, the schools they go to, the interactions they have with their peers, the organizations they are a part of, and the community businesses and organizations that they frequent or are a part of.

We have established:

* Community Gatherings where community members can come to dialogue and collaborate and learn about how to be a part of solutions to problems affecting our youth.

* A tutoring program that assists students with

• Homework
• SAT and PSSA Test Preparation
• Study Skills

* The "We Succeed!" Academic Growth Incentive Program that rewards students for working to raise their own achievement by raising their report card grades by one letter grade or more, or for maintaining a "B" average or better, regardless of growth.

* Connecting local educators to key research on closing achievement gaps
